Agentic Gradient

Definition

The Agentic Gradient measures how deeply an organisation has integrated agentic AI into how it operates. It is a gradient, not a switch: it describes a trajectory from occasional tool use, through workflow integration, to orchestrated fleets of agents carrying real operational volume.

It is the second axis of Hybrid Intelligence, paired with the Cognitive Vitality Index.

Two Axes

The gradient reads two things at once:

• Depth of integration: how far agentic systems have moved from novelty toward core operations.
• Quality of governance: whether that integration is directed by human judgment or left to drift.

A high-depth, low-governance organisation has scaled without a centre. A high-governance, low-depth organisation is careful but has not yet captured the leverage. The healthy position is depth under governance.

Human-Centric, Agentic Scale

The Agentic Gradient is not a race to maximal automation. Paired with the Cognitive Vitality Index, it describes human-centric, agentic scale: humans at the centre (governance, judgment, involvement in the right places) with agentic scale (AI fleets carrying the volume). This is the plain-language expression of the CVI x Agentic Gradient ideal, and the operating model FW.VISION looks for in a future-proof venture.

Role in the CITAble Business Index

The Agentic Gradient feeds the CITAble Business Index as the AI-adoption reading of the four-quadrant alignment. It shows whether a venture can scale its cognition without losing its centre.
